About the Foundation

The Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation was established to catalyze Africa’s economic transformation by focusing on social entrepreneurship, science and technology, innovation, public health, and progressive policies that create economic opportunities for all. The Foundation works in partnership with governments, policymakers, private enterprises, civil society organizations, and development partners to expand opportunities for entrepreneurs and small business owners while advancing African perspectives through global policy platforms. This mission is operationalized through its Small Business & Entrepreneurship Center (SBEC), working in synergy with the Nkafu Policy Institute. The former supports SMEs and promotes business-friendly policies that stimulate innovation and job creation, while the latter is an independent, nonpartisan think tank dedicated to producing evidence-based policy recommendations. These platforms are supported by dynamic communications and administrative teams that amplify the Foundation’s impact.

Eligibility conditions

Interpreters are expected to be English and/or French natives, be widely read or have a good mastery of the target languages, including technical terms of the sector concerned by the events. A previous interpretation experience in the focus areas would be considered an added advantage.

Responsibilities

Interpreter is expected to report at the Foundation’s Office on the event day or at the venue of the event (when the event is hosted onsite) at least 30 minutes before the start of the event. A concept note, discussion guides and event program will be sent to the interpreter up-front so he/she anticipates on the production of a glossary to be submitted to the Head of Communication Department prior to the event. Interpretation facilities such as internet, headsets or lap tops shall be provided by default by the Foundation in case the interpreter cannot afford such.

Selection criteria

Candidates are expected to showcase the following skills and competences

     Competences:

  • Be fluent in English and French languages with a good mastery of the target language;
  • Be capable of making verbal report and be synthetic;
  • Be fluent and have strong language power in the target language;
  • Have good competence in oral and written communication;
  • Be perfectly bilingual (English – French);
  • Be computer literate and open to learning.
     Education:
Be minimally, a holder of a Degree in Social Science or Interpretation
Experience
Have a proven track record of at least three contractual similar previous experiences, or at least 2 years’ experience as an interpreter in a well-established Organization
