Think tanks play a crucial role in producing high-quality research to inform public policy, amplifying the voices of key opinion leaders and civil society through open debates, public events, and advocacy campaigns. They promote the rule of law, respect for fundamental human rights, inclusive and sustainable conflict resolution, and more.

However, the ECCAS region has few reputable and resilient independent think tanks creating significant impact. This region also faces challenges such as poor governance, human rights abuses, armed conflicts, and transnational crime, contributing to persistent insecurity. Women and youth bear the brunt of these issues, with limited involvement in decision-making, conflict resolution, peacebuilding, justice, and social cohesion. The recent coup in Gabon and flawed electoral processes in Chad highlight the ongoing governance issues.

To address these challenges, the Nkafu Policy Institute, part of the Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation, is organizing the two-day Executive and Strategic Leadership Program. This program aims to strengthen the leadership and managerial capacities of think tank and CSO leaders as well as researchers in the ECCAS region, enhancing their ability to produce policy recommendations and effectively support decision-making processes.

The main objective of the Executive and Strategic Leadership Program is to sustain the leadership and effective management of think tanks and CSOs in the Central African Region. Specifically, the program aims to:

  1. Strengthen the strategic management capacity of think tanks to produce high-quality research and influence policy, enhancing democracy and governance.
  2. Enhance the leadership and research capacity of think tank researchers, with a particular focus on women, to conduct research and policy advocacy.
  3. Expand the visibility and reach of think tanks in Central Africa.
