Dr. Jessy Goupeyou is a dedicated public health leader driven by a passion for translating research findings into impactful policy recommendations that address critical public health challenges in Africa. She excels at designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative prevention and control strategies in resource-limited settings.
Dr. Goupeyou’s expertise is grounded in rigorous academic training, including a PhD in Medical Entomology from Sorbonne Université in France, supported by the esteemed Doctoral Grant Calmette & Yersin from the Pasteur Network. Notably, her doctoral research led to the establishment of the first platform for the experimental infection of malaria vectors with Plasmodium parasites in Madagascar.
Prior to joining the Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation, Dr. Goupeyou served as the Regional Coordinator for West and Central Africa at the Pan-African Mosquito Control Association. In this role, she spearheaded strategic initiatives, fostered crucial partnerships, and championed policy changes, with a particular focus on empowering women in the fight against vector-borne diseases. She also contributed to research as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi, where she focused on characterizing Plasmodium transmission reservoirs in the country.
Dr. Goupeyou’s commitment to public health has been recognized through numerous awards, including the PAMCA Women in Vector Control Excellence Award (2021) and the ASTMH/BMGF Annual Meeting Travel Award (2020). She is an alumna of prestigious programs such as the Science of Eradication Malaria at Harvard University and the Leadership, Management and Governance program at Strathmore University Business School. She is also a passionate advocate for engaging younger audiences, particularly in promoting women’s participation in STEM fields related to public health across Africa.
