The Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation is very pleased to announce the 2020 Class of Emerging Leaders

After reviewing 179 nominations and applications, 20 highly skilled and motivated young leaders, below 35, have been selected. These individuals have demonstrated remarkable leadership, have shown great potential in their understanding of public policy, and are dedicated to implementing positive change in the country. We are very proud that this class of 20 is made up of 11 males and 09 females.
Emerging Leaders will participate in a special three (3) day leadership and policy immersion program from the 25th to the 28th of October 2020 in Yaoundé-Cameroon.

The Foundation in partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy, launched this unique program targeting promising young leaders based in Cameroon to better prepare a new generation of transformational leaders. All expenses in line with the program will be covered by the Foundation.

Holder a bachelor’s degree in economics and management, option in economic and financial engineering from Faculty of Economics and Management of the University of Yaoundé II Soa. Presently an intern at the Ministry of Public Health.  

Research Assistant Consultant at Security Studies and Human Rights Center (SSHRC) York University (Canada).  He is monitoring and evaluation Assistant in the ‘Programme d’Appui à l’Initiative Communautaire’ (PAIC). He has also worked as field Coordinator in Mayo-Sava in the Project ‘Transformation pacifique des conflits’. He is a master’s holder in International Development.

Master in International Relations, option Regional Integration and Management of Community Institutions from the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC). Secretary General of Family Green Corporation, Yaoundé branch since 2019, he participated in training workshops on personal development (YALI NETWORK). He was Advisor to the President of the African Union Club of IRIC from 2018 to 2019 and member of the IRIC Protocol Commission. He is the author of a scientific article.

Master in International Cooperation, Humanitarian action and sustainable development – Option Humanitarian Action- International Relations Institute of Cameroon. Project manager at the NGO EMIDA Cameroon (2020). Has varied experiences in different organizations such as Report writer at GTOG (Groupe des OSC pour le genre au Cameroun) (2019), Intern at the Ministry of Economy, planning and Regional development (2017), field agent for the Central Africa Office at the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (2016).

Medical Doctor with relevant training with YALI Accra Regional leadership Center (2020), West Africa, Doctors without Borders (2017), Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation (MINRESI) (2013). He is UN Volunteer Medical Officer, Chief Medical Officer at EKONA Sub-divisional Hospital, Muyuka health district. He is competent in General clinical Medicine, healthcare management and program coordination, emergency response and humanitarian relief operations, health care budgeting, project planning, quality assessment and health reporting.

Engineer from the National Polytechnic Yaoundé, option: Industrial Engineering with several years of experience in the fields of hydroelectric structures and power transmission lines where he worked as a field and design engineer.

Holder of a Masters in international relations from the Institute of International Relations of Cameroon (IRIC), he is a diplomat, head of the relations with the countries of North-East Africa at the Directorate of African Affairs at the Ministry of external affairs of Cameroon. He participated in the Imperial Garden Cup in China in 2016, delegate to the 2017 United Nations International Model Forum in Beijing, panelist at the World Youth Forum in 2018, delegate of Cameroon to the Aswan Forum on Peace and Sustainable development 2019. In addition, he has been Country Executive Director for Cameroon of the “Young African Change Makers (YACM)” Initiative since April 2019.

Partnership Coordinator at HerStory Initiation where she supervises operations of programs in Cameroon. She is also a WWF Cameroon Business and Industries Assistant where she advocates and Supports Government in the development of policies that support best practices in the palm oil and extractive sectors in Cameroon. 

Afrika Youth Movement -Partnership Coordinator where she supports the development and implementation of activities aimed at specifically youth participation and young civil society regionally and internationally.

Holder of a master’s degree in public health and President/CEO of Reconciliation and Development Association- a youth run development organization. Secretary General (SG), Cameroon Civil Society NCD Alliance (CACSNA) where he coordinated the Central African sub region in the development, adoption and implementation of NCD Civil Society Advocacy actions and governance structure.

Trainee with several international organizations such as the UNHCR of Bertoua / Batouri, the Cameroonian Red Cross, Network for the promotion of regional integration in Central Africa. He holds a Masters in international relations, regional integration option and management of community institutions (IRMIC).

Hernica Besong

A Ph.D scholar in sociology of the University of Buea. A highly dynamic, motivated and trilingual Cameroonian. Acquired good working knowledge in community development, monitoring and evaluation of projects. Has experience in Research development, and considerable experience implementing projects. A trained case manager in GBV prevention activites.

General Practitioner and the Founder of 1A4T (One Action For Them) Association for the Orphans. He is winner of the 2017 Essay Competition on Industrialization in Africa organized Denis and Leonora Foundation.

Diplomat, Foreign Affairs Specialist with 4 years experience, drafting and implementing bilateral cooperation strategy and diplomatic ties development with African countries. Hands-on experience working with North African countries and their diplomatic representations on issues pertaining to peace and security, technical cooperation and trade relations. She has prior private sector experience with a focus on business development in the communication and branding industry.

A social justice advocate and multi-tasked soon to be Medical Doctor and paralegal. She has experience in the field of Health promotion, community health expert, peace advocacy, women empowerment, and Human Right. One of her strengths is her ability not to give up on a task while building progressive relationships in a multi-cultural environment and across various spheres.

A secondary school teacher in and founder of the start-up NDOLETISE, vice-president of the local AIESEC MAROUA committee in charge of Marketing and Communication (LCVP MAC AIESEC MAROUA), Vice-president of the Organizing Committee of Youth Speak Forum Maroua 2020. She has benefited from several trainings and participated in several seminars as a trainer including the YALI Learn on the importance of civic engagement and the role of voting in the development of Cameroon in 2020.

An experienced manager focused on general services, such as corporate service strategy, process development, digital monitoring and evaluation with approximately seven (7) years in developing business models and strategic planning. Certified Professional in Digital Marketing. One year and more in the development of communication plans, implementation and evaluation.

Founder and promoter of SPEAK; SAY IT WELL an organization that organizes workshops on public speaking and debate training. She is also the Regional coordinator of the central region for the Cameroon debate association. She is a master’s degree holder in Environmental studies.

Hernica BesongAssistant coordinator of the NGO Dynamique Mondiale des Jeunes (DMJ) for the Far North, holds a Bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Maroua. She participated in several trainings and is the founding president of the Action Network for the Development of Africa. She has volunteered with several associations and non-governmental organizations.

Lawyer, Specialist in Human Rights and Humanitarian Action and expert in legal data protection at personal character. Has worked as an intern at National Commission of Human Rights and Freedom, in advocating for the respect of human rights and freedom.
